7 day trip to Bangkok – Koi Samui – Phuket
When you hear the word Bangkok, Pathaya you immediately relate to bachelor parties, ping-pong shows, hangover movie, cheap hotels and so on. That’s the image we had in mind as well. But there is a lot more to do in Thailand. You could travel to Thailand for entertainment, sport or romantic getaway, this place has it all.
While there are cabs that are easily available, we took tuk tuks to go around places that are close by. Taxi’s go by meter so you cant bargain on the price however tuk tuks price can be bargained. If you don’t have an itinerary planed, there are taxis that take you on tour packages and are at reasonable price.
Tips – Usually tuk tuks charge you high price since you are a tourist. So always be careful on the prices.
We had planned to visit Grand palace and Wat Pho as we read a lot about it on Trip adviser. However we didn’t realize that we are going during the mourning period of their king. I was amazed to see the amount of respect people had for their king and how thousands of people wore black attire and attended the mourning.
To enter the palace you need to dress modestly. But when they say modestly they don’t even accept a cut in your jeans. So cover your shoulders and your knees. If you go there unprepared, you will find lots of shops outside selling cloths and shawls and wont cost a lot.
The entry to Grand palace is 500 bht. Grand palace is not just one palace, it has many temples before you reach the palace so plan to spend atleast half a day.
Heaven for shoppers
Asiatique – We were advice by our host from our service apartment: Sabai Sathorn to visit Asiatique for shopping. I must tell you, he has a good taste. Asiatique is a huge market with lots to shop, flavoursome thai food & drinks, and lots of entertainment. Best way to end this shopping day is with a great foot massage.
Tips – Prices are negotiable at this place so bargain on the price for a good deal. You will find plenty shops with similar products so don’t stick to one shop.
Floating market – Another way of enjoying shopping is on floating markets. You whizz through the narrow canals with plenty of stalls to shop and tasty food and fuits along the docks. We had visited the Damnern saduak floating market and the experience was amazing.
Tips – Floating market ride has a ticket so don’t assume that this is free of cost. Products sold in this market are comparatively expensive.
Thailand has amazing local food and we tried and recommend you to try– mango sticky rice, coconut ice cream, morning glory (it’s a dish), thai tiger prawn yellow curry, masaman curry lobsters and some local beer – Singa and Tiger. We tried Pandan soya bubble drink at Asiatique but didn’t like it much.
We stayed at Sabai Sathone service apartment. It is affordable, clean and the host are very helpful and friendly. You can always look at international hotels as they are not too expensive but if you are on a budget trip, you can always opt for service apartments.
Go Go bars
Going to Bangkok and not visiting the red-light district, is not happening. Of course this place caters to adults. We had visited Soi Cowboy, which is a street full of bright neon lights, the ladies and drinks. It’s a pretty easy going place so you can just buy a drink and watch some shows.
Everything that you need in a holiday is at Chaweng beach. Beautiful beach side, cocktail bars, partying, beach resorts, water sport and Thai massage.
Lady boy cabaret is something not to miss. Glittering lady boys with colorful costume, sing and show great performance on the stage. It is a must-visit place in chaweng. Entry is free, however you need to buy a drink to watch the show. You will find it in the central area of Chaweng beach road.
We booked Phi Phi Island & Khai Island by speed boat with Phuket SRC travel. It’s a full day tour where they take you to phi phi kah, monkey island, phi phi leh, maya island and koh khai island. Not all islands have a beach to get down. The tour bus will pick and drop you at your hotel if you inform them in advance.
Tips – If you are an adventure freak, sit on the front side of the boat. If you have motion sickness, or don’t prefer the bumps, then sit at the back.
We stayed at the peach blossom resort, which has a beautiful view of the sunrise and the beach. We decided to go walking from our hotel towards Karon road where you can see Karon beach and lots of restaurants. It is around 20 to 25 mins walk from hotel so you can opt to go by a tuk tuk instead of walk.
If you are a seafood lover, this place is heaven for you. You will find fresh seafood kept in counters and you can choose what you wish to eat. There are plenty of seafood restaurants in Karon road.
We loved Thailand and would definitely visit again to see places that we missed. Whats your favorite place in Thailand? Do comments and share some of your experiences.
